This is the 21st century. We would think that people are progressive and understand various issues others go through. But no! You’re in for a harsh surprise if you have assumed that you are not going to be judged in today’s world. Well, surprise surprise! If you are one who is tackling mental health problems, then you are going to be stigmatized by society. Even though famous actors have come out and talked about their battles with mental health, society still finds several ways to be judgmental about it. However, what nobody realizes is the key that mental health holds to a person’s happiness.

People who suffer from mental illnesses may be in your family, your neighbors, or even your friends. They may be people who are suppressing their issues so that there are not ridiculed by others. Mental health is not just the way we are feeling. It also includes our social, psychological, and economic well-being. What we don’t realize is that if we are not mentally fine, that will affect the way we think, act, and feel.

Some very common warning signs of mental illnesses are:

  • Feeling very tired and lazy
  • Sleeping too much or sleeping too little
  • Pulling away from family and friends
  • Smoking, drinking or using drugs
  • A constant feeling of hopelessness and helplessness

How do you take care of your mental health and be aware at the same time?

  • Realize their full potential

When you are emotionally and physically well, there will be no limits to the goals you can achieve and the work you can complete. With complete control over your happiness, you will be able to realize the 100% capacity of your physical and emotional capacity.

  • Make meaningful contributions to society

If you are a person who had suffered from any mental illnesses and overcome them, why not share your experience with somebody who needs it? Share your troubles. Help others who are suffering by empathizing with them and giving them all the support, they need.

  • Cope with the stresses of life

Living life will never be easy. It will come with its own share of miseries and troubles. If you are emotionally well and stable, you will always find a way to overcome all your struggles.

How do you maintain positive mental health?

  • See a therapist if you need to

There’s nothing wrong with seeking professional help if you feel the need to. Although going to a psychologist or a therapist is seen as ‘bad’ in the eyes of society, it can prove to be good for you.

  • Staying positive

I know this is hard at times, but staying positive can do wonders. Even at the hardest times of your life, learn to stay positive and rooted. As an added bonus, staying positive can make you feel enthusiastic and brighter.

  • Be more physically active

Mental health is only effective when you are physically active as well. Play some games, engage in various outdoor activities, find out what interests you the most. Believe me, it makes a huge difference.

These are just simple things that one can do to take care of their mental health. Never take the status of your mental health to be simple. Always pay heed to it. If you ever feel that something is wrong with you or anyone else, consult professional help.
